Sixty-five years of moving forward.
Founded in 1960, B. W. Harris remains one of Liberia’s leading Episcopal schools, offering quality education rooted in Christian principles and academic excellence.
From two parish schools to a complete high school.
Sixty-five years of faith, learning and resilience in the heart of Monrovia.
- 1945
Bishop Harris arrives in Liberia
The Rt. Rev. Bravid Washington Harris begins his service as Missionary Bishop of Liberia, leading the Episcopal Church here from 1945 to 1964. The school would later carry his name.
- 1960
Two parish schools become one
B. W. Harris is established through the merger of Trinity Parish Primary School and St. Thomas Parish School, first enrolling about 250 students in Grades One through Eight.
- 1960s
Growing grade by grade
A new grade was added each year until B. W. Harris became a complete senior high school.
- 1964
A ministry of Trinity Cathedral
After St. Thomas Church withdrew from the partnership, the school continued as a ministry of Trinity Cathedral under the Episcopal Diocese of Liberia.
- 1990s
Enduring the civil conflict
Like much of Monrovia, the school suffered disruption and looting during Liberia’s civil war. Staff, families and alumni worked to restore the campus, with renovations of the buildings and cafeteria in 1997 and 1998.
- 1993
The alumni rally behind their school
The B. W. Harris Episcopal School Alumni Association-USA holds its first convention, beginning more than three decades of support: a generator in 1995, science laboratories, computer labs, roof repairs, books and scholarships.
- 2010s
Learning goes digital
Alumni-funded projects bring a technology curriculum for Grades 7–12, teacher training, new computers and a 2013 project to digitise school records, alongside dozens of scholarships each year.
- Today
